How a Lead Generation Chatbot Qualifies Website Visitors
Most visitors leave a website without saying anything. Some had a question they could not find the answer to. Some were ready to talk but did not want to fill in a long form and wait for a callback. A lead generation chatbot catches those people while they are still on the page.
What a lead generation chatbot does
- Answers visitor questions straight away, using your own content.
- Asks a few questions to understand what the visitor needs.
- Collects contact details when the visitor is ready.
- Passes promising leads to a person, with the whole conversation attached.
It is not a replacement for your sales team. It is the part that never sleeps and never forgets to ask for an email address.
Start with the visitor's question, not yours
The quickest way to lose a visitor is to ask for their details before helping them. Let them ask first. A chatbot that answers "how much does it cost?" or "do you work with schools?" clearly earns the right to ask a question back.
Offer a few buttons for the most common reasons people visit, such as "See pricing", "Book a demo" or "I have a question", so starting is one tap.
The questions that qualify a lead
Keep it to the questions that change what happens next:
- Need: what are they trying to solve?
- Timing: are they looking to start now, this quarter, or just researching?
- Size or budget: only if it changes which plan or person they should talk to.
- Role: are they the person who decides, or gathering options for someone else?
Ask them one at a time, in plain words, and use buttons where the answers are predictable. Our guide to lead qualification questions has examples by industry.
Collect details at the right moment
Ask for an email or phone number when there is a clear reason: to send a quote, confirm a booking, or have a specialist call back. A short form inside the chat is easier than sending the visitor to another page, and you get clean data instead of a typed paragraph.
Route leads to the right person
Decide in advance what "sales-ready" means for you, for example a start date within a month and a team size above ten. Those conversations go to a person immediately, during business hours, with the chat history so they do not repeat questions. Everyone else gets helpful answers and stays in your contacts for later.
Answer accurately or not at all
A chatbot that makes up prices or features does more harm than no chatbot. Train it on your real pricing page, service descriptions and FAQs, and set it to hand over when it does not know. Reviewing the questions it could not answer each week is the easiest way to make it better.
Measure the right things
- How many visitors start a conversation.
- How many share contact details.
- How many of those become customers.
- Which questions come up most, so you can improve your pages too.
How IotaBot does it
IotaBot's website widget answers from your own content, asks qualifying questions with quick-action buttons, collects details with forms inside the chat, and hands sales-ready conversations to your team. The same assistant works on WhatsApp and Instagram, so leads from every channel land in one inbox. See the lead generation chatbot page.
